Somehow I remember my Japanese friend's story when I hear about this place. She told me in Japan becoming a salaryman is the expected career choice for young men and they typically stay with their first company throughout the whole career. She also told me after working long hours, they usually go to casual places (Izakaya) for after-work drinking with their colleagues.

Sydney Must Eat
Yes, summer is here and there are no reasons not to hit beaches and of course stuff yourself with selections of good food from the well known coastal cafes. Showbox Coffee Brewers is one of them if you are in Manly and need something fresh, healthy but also unique in its own way.
The cafe itself is quite small and packed with retro tables you'd see in a diner. The all-day menu is varied towards wholefoods with unusual touches you can't find it in other places.
Poke Poke (pronounced pok-eh) is described as Hawaiian style salmon tartare or think of it as Hawaiian style sushi. It's basically fresh salmon sashimi cut into cubes, mixed with green onion, chili and other veggies on a bed of wild rice with soft egg and pickled ginger. This dish is light and served cold, but unfortunately they put too much shoyu sauce as it was too salty for my liking and the egg came medium boiled instead.
This newcomer on their seasonal menu is called Southern Debris. The slow-cooked pork is flavourful, tender on the inside and get that sort of caramelized brown on the outside. The sauce gives you the fresh Mexican flavour with its generous use of fresh herbs. Served on a lightly toasted sourdough with fried egg, corn salsa, and southern biscuit crumbs, they make a vibrant and delicious combination of earthy, sweet and savoury tste
There's always room for dessert and this Strawberry and Cream Sourdough Pudding plays its role perfectly as a dessert for breakfast! It has crisp edges with soft textural contrast in the centre. Served with creamy custard sauce and topped with strawberry slices and pistachio, you pretty much can't go wrong choosing this bread pudding!

Woolloomooloo
If I told you a flower bloomed in a patisserie cafe, would you believe it?
Elsa Li (ex The Observatory, Adriano Zumbo, and Merivale) together with Angela Wong have turned their dream into reality with this sleek all white tiny cafe called Petal Met Sugar, combining good pastries and desserts with fresh flowers - a few of my favorite things, on the ground floor of a new apartment in Woolloomooloo.
Stepping inside, the strong buttery fragrance floats in the air invites you to linger a little longer while admiring all colorful and beautiful flowers situated just next to the desserts cabinet.
From pretty finishing touches to lending an additional subtle flavours, this place's certainly proved that flowers aren't just for decoration. Currently they have 5 selections of sweets and will be offering more floral-influenced desserts once they have settled in a bit more.
Terrarium is simply a too pretty to be eaten masterpiece and definitely my favorite! This delicate and delightfully tangy panna cotta has both passion fruit and finger lime complementing each other in such positive harmony that it leaves you wanting for more. The cocoa nib soil, baby lemon balm and edible flowers add extra flavors and textures with the sweetness of the Callebaut 29.5% white chocolate balances out the overall tanginess.
Look at those Peach Oolong's luscious layers! The subtle and fragrant Lupicia Peach Oolong Tea brulee is gradually overtaken by the rich and tangy layers of yoghurt mousse and blood peach compote. It tastes almost like a smooth slice of peach yoghurt with extra sweetness from coconut macaron and coconut glaze.
I always get excited everytime I see Eclair lies beautifully with its shiny glaze on a display cabinet. Filled with a deep amber coloured sour rhubarb jam and topped with vanilla bean creme patissiere and rhubarb chips, we unfortunately didn't really enjoy it very much as the choux pastry was quite dense for our liking.
Went here on another visit as we just couldn't get over it and ordered this breath-taking Chocolate Candy Bar! The base is a rich and creamy texture chocolate flourless sponge topped with burnt butter ganache and praline feuilletine. I love how the crispy feuilletine flakes adds a textural element to the fudgy ganache and the light and airy milk chocolate mousse makes it look extra luxurious! The addition of creme anglaise (only available if you dine in) gives you some extra fun as a drizzling sauce while enjoying this beauty.
Not just sweets, Petal Met Sugar also excelled in extraordinary croissant! Their light and flaky Vanilla Bean Croissant smells so highly fragrant with intense flavour and visually satisfying for being able to see the little black specks within the layers inside.

Khao Pla - Chatswood
Khao Pla has won people's heart as one of the best Thai eateries in Chatswood area since the day they opened back in 2013. Coming from Bangkok, Chef Pla Rojratanavichai, having worked with Spice I am, Ms. G's and Mr Wong brings his idea of authentic flavour and classic Thai dishes into an innovative menu for his first Thai restaurant.

"What does Hutong mean?" - That's the first question Mr. Nomnom asked when I told him there's a relatively new place in Eastern suburb called Little Hutong.
I started googling and found it actually means a type of narrow lane or alleyway in a traditional residential area in China where many of the Chinese cooking styles and tastes we know now emerged from those small back lanes. Little Hutong hold this concept close as they combine the authentic flavours from Penang, Japanese, Chinese and Peranakan food with high quality of raw ingredients and thus create a high standard for their own authentic taste!

Cafe Oratnek - Redfern
I would see Redfern in different way now with the addition of Cafe Oratnek opened by Chef Kentaro "Kenny" Takayama, ex-Bills head chef, located just behind the Prince Alfred Park and surrounded by the retail space and residential area.
Named after the chef's first name in reverse (Kentaro - Oratnek), this place offers some fresh Asian influence to its menu and produce everything mostly in-house (with the exception of Brickfields bread and Mecca coffee).

There's no reason not to love this super popular chocolate hazelnut spread.. Actually I don't think I've ever heard of anyone hating it (unless you have nut or chocolate allergy).. I could sit and devour the whole jar with a spoon as Nutella is pretty damn delicious on its own (Well, that's the case if I'm watching TV on my own.. LOL) or simply slab it on just about anything and it has that HUGE power to shake the world!

Best Tofu Soup at BCD Tofu House - Epping
There's nothing better than a bowl (or bowls) of piping hot soup to warm and fill me up on a cold winter's day! As I can't handle cold weather, it definitely leaves me feeling chilled to the bone, constantly hungry and longing for a good Soondubu (Tofu Soup) all the time!
BCD Tofu House is truly a hidden gem (it's quite hidden from the main road) in Epping and as the name says, you're going to be here for their Korean Soondubu!

Gratia: Sydney's First Profit-for-Purpose Cafe - Surry Hills
Sydney's first profit for a purpose cafe has recently opened in Surry Hills.. A little bit of chat with the staff, she explained that 100% of its profits (after paying all the expenses and running costs) will be split 50% for their own foundation, Pure Foundation and the other 50% will be for the diners' nominated charities.. For every $5 spent on food and drinks, diners will be given a coloured ball and can choose which charity they want their donation is made to..

Local Mbassy - Ultimo
The weather was so good last week.. A-rather-warm winter and sunny day urged me to leave my bed and went out for a walk! Just a short walking distance from Central Station, I arrived at this 2-months-old cafe to catch up with Ms. ET..
Local Mbassy is a great addition to Ultimo considering the lack of cafe options around the area.. The decoration gave you the industrial feeling with all the unique furniture pieces, the light bulb fittings and its larger-than-life mural by local artist, Sid Tapia..

Thy Vietnamese Eatery - Bankstown
Vietnamese food has a definite spot in my heart with its light flavour and freshness. Fresh herbs and vegetables are essential to many Vietnamese dishes and mostly served as condiments..
Last weekend Mr. Nomnom and I decided to visit Bankstown as it's been ages since the last time we went there.. With Banh Cuon (Steamed Rice Roll) set in our mind, we know there's no other place we'd rather be than Thy Vietnamese Eatery..

Top 7 Croissants You Must Try in Sydney!
Who doesn't love croissant these days? In every bakeries, patisseries and cafes.. You can easily find this melt-in-your-mouth French staple whenever you are craving for it.. They all come in different textures and variations, from plain to ham and cheese, chocolate, almond and even Ispahan..
A perfect croissant for me should be made from a good quality butter, folded over and over to get those luscious layers.. It's hard not to indulge myself in this buttery and flaky treats whenever I see them laying gracefully inside the glass cabinet.. LOL!

We once heard about Pu'er from a news we read when they first opened to the public around 2 years ago.. I learnt that Siev Gour, its owner, travelled extensively over the last 4 years to China and Hong Kong in search for the perfect dim sum..
It's actually fascinating for us to see a dim sum house that really provides a unique tea experience from their extensive selections while pairing it with the unique dim sum and tasty dishes..

The Incinerator - Willoughby
What will come up in your mind when I mention about "incinerator"?
Will you think it of as a burner? An old Building? Or an abandoned place filled with material ashes?
It might be true in some cases but the one we saw in Willoughby had totally different vibe! Old wooden benches with some umbrellas welcomed us as we entered the area and this unique thing (it's actually a lift!) caught my attention for sure!
